Colin Whelan
President, Advanced Technology
Colin S. Whelan is president of Advanced Technology at Raytheon, a business of RTX that specializes in integrated air and missile defense, advanced sensors, space-based systems, hypersonics, effectors and cyber solutions. He oversees development and rapid prototyping of precision weapons, undersea systems, ground and airborne radars, electronic warfare and space systems.
Whelan, an engineer and physicist, brings over 25 years of experience in the development of advanced technologies for aerospace and defense. Most recently, he served as president, Advanced Technology, at Raytheon Missiles & Defense. He was also the vice president of Advanced Technology at Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems prior to Raytheon Company’s merger with United Technologies Corporation in 2020.
Before joining the company, Whelan worked at Digital Semiconductor and Intel, where he developed new processes for the production of silicon microprocessors.
Whelan has published more than 70 technical papers and holds ten patents.
He earned two degrees from Cornell University: a master’s degree in applied engineering physics and a bachelor’s degree in physics.
